Types of residential lighting
Residential lighting means the offer of lighting in a space intended for life, day and night. By residential space, one can refer to townhouses, terrace houses, apartments, villas or bungalows. Residential spaces need night and day lighting.
Natural and Artificial Lighting
Residential lighting of the day can be natural or artificial. Lamps and lamps can be used to provide artificial light. Lamps can be hanging lights, chandeliers, table lamps, floor lamps, etc. Natural light is obtained by capturing daylight through skylights or windows. In general, natural light is thought to be superior to artificial light, as the former provides health benefits to the inhabitants of the household.
Types of artificial lights
When designing a home, it is vital that you go to a wide variety of residential lighting fixtures instead of looking for the same type. There are 3 main types of residential lighting: general lighting, task lighting and accent lighting. You can use any of these to be incorporated into your living space. All of these types can improve your living space in a different way.
• Task lighting:
Task lighting is best used when you want to illuminate a particular task space. Examples include a kitchen stove or a study desk. These spaces adapt to table lamps or hanging lighting. You can even use floor lamps. A crucial feature of task lighting is that you must focus a lot of light on the task area, without generating much heat.
Interior designers will examine the type of activities to be carried out in all areas of the room to ensure that there is sufficient light to carry out such activities and that the intensity of light is powerful enough to illuminate any space that requires specific light.
Task lighting allows the placement of suitable light sources where it is most required, illuminate particular areas and provide the necessary light for activities such as doing work at home, dressing, cooking, reading, etc. tables etc.
• Accent lighting
This lighting is mainly for decorative purposes and is used to illuminate paintings, wall-mounted artworks or decorative plants and other elements of landscaping or interior design.
Accent lighting is used to add decorative elements and create a strong visual impact. Accent lighting is used to highlight elements such as sculptures, paintings, architectural elements or entrances to the rooms. Accent lighting can be added to the décor by designing the accessory as chandeliers or pendants.
• General lighting
It is one of the first layers of lighting used by modern interior decorators. It refers to the light used to illuminate the entire room space. These lighting sources provide basic lighting needs to create an accessible space through which people can move safely. Residential recessed lighting or ceiling fittings can be adjusted to general lighting needs.
General lighting can be existing lighting or an element of the new lighting plan. General lighting is also known as ambient lighting. It is used to illuminate an area, without focusing on any specific space. Lighting fixtures usually hang from the ceiling and there are even floor lamps that provide ambient lighting.
These are all major types of residential lighting. Interior designers can help you develop a plan for home lighting.
